Arizona Diamondbacks

The following Diamondbacks are eligible for free agency: Carlos Baerga, Miguel Batista, Mark Grace, Felix Jose, Raul Mondesi, and Mike Myers.

Mark Grace retired and will join the Diamondbacks' broadcast team. Arizona paid the $300,000 buyout on Batista's $5M option, but they're still interested in re-signing him at a lower price. If he doesn't return to the Diamondbacks, he should be a bargain for another club. Philadelphia and St. Louis look like potential suitors.

The Diamondbacks would like to bring Mondesi back but believe he may ask for more than they want to pay. Division rivals San Francisco and Los Angeles should pursue him.

A lot of rumors have indicated Arizona will trade Curt Schilling this off-season, as they probably won't have the payroll available to re-sign him after the 2004 season. The club also likely will explore dealing Junior Spivey.

Arizona's off-season will be a success if the Diamondbacks acquire the additional offense necessary to take advantage of the team's last season with both Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling.

Colorado Rockies

The following Rockies are eligible for free agency: Bobby Estalella, Jose Jimenez, Greg Norton, Darren Oliver, Steve Reed, Chris Richard, Jesus Sanchez, Chris Stynes, Mark Sweeney, and Greg Zaun.

Colorado paid the $300,000 buyout on Reed's $1.15M option and the $200,000 buyout on Stynes' $1.2M option. This off-season the Rockies are seeking a middle infielder, likely Eric Young, a couple of starting pitchers, and a closer, perhaps Rod Beck.
