2004 Hitting: July NL Overachievers
by Tim Polko

Today's Fantasy Rx

Arizona: Luis Terrero, OF
9/23 for .391/.481/.478 with 0 HR, 1 RBI, 2 R, 1/1 SB%,
and a 3:4 BB:K.
68/217 for .313/.374/.535 with 9 HR, 35 RBI, 36 R, 15/18 SB%,
and a 17:48 BB:K for AAA Tucson(PCL).

The Diamondbacks' new starting center fielder probably deserves this promotion considering his progress this year, but he certainly won't maintain his current averages and may not be an ideal long-term solution for this team. Arizona suspended him for 36 games earlier this season after throwing a ball at a fan, and then he missed another game last month after kissing home plate following a home run. He also possesses enough overall hitting ability, plate discipline, speed, and defensive skills to force most organizations to overlook his questionable discipline and multiple injuries over the last few seasons. While I harbor concerns regarding Terrero's development in many areas, most rebuilding teams should target Terrero. Even current contenders should explore his availability since he offers similar upside to Luis Matos, who fairly exploded onto the fantasy scene in 2003 before slumping this year.

We'll continue tomorrow with American League overachieving pitchers.

Today's Fantasy Rx: The backlash following the Dodgers-Marlins trade continues to pervade most major media outlets. Given the general lack of contradictory opinions regarding the deal in news mediums other than websites, take advantage of the publicity in any league composed of casual fantasy participants. Shop Lo Duca, Encarnacion, and even Mota heavily since all three may never enjoy higher perceived values. Similarly see if you can add Choi and especially Penny since both should flourish in Los Angeles.
