2004 Hitting: July AL Overachievers
by Tim Polko

Today's Fantasy Rx

Anaheim: Robb Quinlan, 3B/1B
39/114 for .342/.402/.526 with 3 HR, 18 RBI, 16 R, 3/4 SB%,
and a 10:18 BB:K.
32/108 for .296/.377/.454 with 2 HR, 17 RBI, 15 R, 1/2 SB%,
and a 14:14 BB:K for AAA Salt Lake(PCL).

Quinlan's current .928 OPS shouldn't surprise anyone who remembers his .930 OPS for Salt Lake in 2002, the year he won the PCL MVP. The nearly unbelievable aspect of his current success is his current starting role after two years of Anaheim management seemingly ignoring the 27-year-old. His hot streak right now makes him a default everyday player in a very deep offense. While Quinlan could return to seeing a couple at-bats a week at any time, anyone needing offense should target him now since he possesses the skills to hold a .300 BA with good quantitative stats.

We'll continue tomorrow with National League overachieving batters.

Today's Fantasy Rx: The quickly approaching trade deadlines of most fantasy leagues means you need to move quickly to secure any necessary pieces for your teams. Contenders should look for category advantages wherever possible for both improving your team and impeding the upside of your competitors. Rebuilding teams similarly should look to move any remaining expiring contracts for even possible keepers, although packaging a couple of respectable keepers for a $5 player currently earning $25 remains the best way to insure long-term success after an otherwise lost season.
