Safety Pineiro

Boston dealt a player to be named later or cash considerations to Seattle for LHP Mike Myers on August 6th. While 26-year-old LHP Mark Malaska performs acceptably against left-handed hitters, the Red Sox would rather rely on a veteran like 35-year-old Myers. Myers presence will allow Boston to be more selective in their use of LHP Alan Embree. Malaska, who the Red Sox demoted in order to open a roster spot for Myers, should rejoin the team in September, but I expect Myers to be the second lefty in their playoff bullpen.
