San Francisco placed RHP Jerome Williams on the disabled list on July 31st. Williams left his July 30th start against St. Louis after only three innings due to elbow tightness. Subsequent investigation revealed that a bone fragment had lodged in his right elbow. He underwent surgery on August 4th to remove loose bodies and a small bone spur from the joint. While initial projections estimated a recovery time of four to six weeks, the Giants now appear uncertain as to whether Williams will be able to return before the end of the season.
