Craig Monroe injured his left hamstring during Detroit's July 8th game in Minnesota, but with the extra off-days provided by the All-Star Break, the 27-year-old hoped a DL stint would be unnecessary. After resting through the break, Monroe attempted to participate on a part time basis but found himself unable to juggle his interest in helping the team and his need to avoid exerting himself and causing a more serious injury. The Tigers also were impatient to have a healthy centerfielder on the roster, so Detroit moved Monroe to the disabled list on July 21st. His injury has been described as a mild hamstring strain, and he's expected to be ready to return when he's first eligible to come off the disabled list on August 5th.
