EverettQuest

In July, GM Kenny Williams' thoughts turn to Carl Everett. When the White Sox sought a boost for their playoff run last season, Williams acquired Everett from the Rangers. Yesterday, Chicago dealt Jon Rauch and RHP Gary Majewski to the Expos to acquire Everett for their stretch run. Montreal also reportedly will cover all of Everett's 2004 salary above a prorated minimum wage.

Injuries to his right shoulder and left ankle have zapped some of Everett's power and left him a little impatient at the plate this season. He also strained his left hamstring while compensating for his ankle injury in late June. However, coming out of the All-Star Break, he's supposedly recovered from all of those problems, putting him in position for a strong second half. I do not expect all of the 33-year-old's power to return immediately, but he should help the White Sox's ride out Frank Thomas' trip to the disabled list.

Chicago drafted Majewski out of high school with a second round pick in the 1998 draft, dealt him to the Dodgers in March of 2001, and reacquired him from L.A. in July of 2001. Toronto selected him in the 2002 Rule 5 draft but returned him to the White Sox before the 2003 season even opened. He's posted excellent strikeout rates throughout the minors as both a starter and reliever, however control problems have limited his success. In his second season at AAA Charlotte in the International League, Majewski has compiled a 41:16 K:BB with 30 H and 2 HR allowed in 42.1 IP.
