A Ligtenberg in the Attic

by Jessica Polko

Toronto placed Carlos Delgado on the disabled list on June 8th. Delgado strained a rib cage muscle in late May. He evidently played through the injury for a while, but the pain caused him to exit early from the Blue Jays' May 29th game against Texas. Toronto hoped that a few days of rest would allow him to return to the lineup, but the club eventually decided to reclaim the roster spot until Delgado is healthy. The DL move is retroactive to May 30th, so Delgado is already eligible to return. However, optimistic estimates indicate next week is the soonest he might come of the disabled list. I think he will try to be back when the Blue Jays start their series against the Expos on the 25th, but a setback could cause him to miss a few more weeks, so hopefully Toronto won't rush him.
