Cash Shortage

Toronto placed RHP Roy Halladay on the disabled list on June 3rd. Halladay reported soreness in his shoulder prior to his scheduled start on June 1st, causing the Blue Jays to hold him out of that game. His pain has been attributed to tendinitis in his shoulder, so Toronto plans skip the 27-year-old's next turn in the rotation as well to let him rest. Since the club was able to backdate his DL stint to May 28th, Halladay will be eligible to return on June 12th. At that point, the Blue Jays expect him to able to make a start more or less immediately depending on the way the team wants to set up the rotation around him.

Prior to losing Halladay for a couple of starts, Toronto placed RHP Justin Miller on the disabled list on June 1st. Miller pitched through two starts with discomfort in his right hamstring while receiving treatment from the medical staff. However, with Miller's pain increasing, the Blue Jays decided to send the 26-year-old to the DL to allow the small tear in his right hamstring to heal. Toronto has not indicated when the club expects Miller to be able to rejoin the team, and from what we know, he could be facing a DL stint anywhere from three to eight weeks long.

The Blue Jays disabled list has grown fat over the past few weeks. 2B-S Orlando Hudson hit the DL on May 28th. Hudson evidently had been battling a minor hamstring problem for a bit before the injury became a significant problem during Toronto's May 23rd game in Boston. The club kept him on the sideline for a few days, hoping the 26-year-old would heal quickly and be able to return to the lineup. When he failed to show swift improvement, the Blue Jays moved him to the disabled list, where he can recover at a more relaxed pace. Toronto initially believed he might be able to rejoin the team when he is eligible to come off the disabled list on June 8th, but he suffered a minor setback yesterday. Consequently, I do not expect him back before the Blue Jays leave their home turf for a road trip to National League grass on June 15th.
