Angle-Sexson

by Jessica Polko

Arizona placed Richie Sexon on the disabled list on April 29th. Just two days after hitting the longest home run in the history of Bank One Ballpark, a 503-foot shot off his image on the JumboTron, Sexson had to leave the Diamondbacks' April 28th game against the Cubs in the eighth inning due to a shoulder injury. Sexson partially dislocated his left shoulder while attempting check his swing on an inside pitch from LaTroy Hawkins. An MRI revealed a partially torn labrum and a bruised humorous bone. Arizona wants Sexson to rest, allowing the bruise to heal. The labrum tear will require surgery to repair, but the Diamondbacks currently believe that Sexson should be able to play through the rest of the season with the injury, since he throws right-handed. His power may suffer once he returns, and off-season surgery seems likely. While Arizona has not committed to a specific return date, current estimates project Sexson will rejoin the club sometime in the next three to six weeks.
