Yesterday, Milwaukee dealt LHP Valerio de los Santos to Philadelphia for a player to be named later. The Brewers have other left-handed relief options for 2004, so there was no need for them to hold onto Santos whose eligible for arbitration this off-season.

Philadelphia possessed solid left-handed relief in the form of Rheal Cormier and Dan Plesac. Consequently, the Phillies didn't need de los Santos to be eligible for their potential playoff roster. However, the club wanted to add another southpaw to the roster in September for the Wildcard push.
