Rich Aurilia underwent an emergency appendectomy early last week and was immediately placed on the disabled list. San Francisco initially estimated he'd need at least three weeks from the time of the surgery to recover sufficiently to rejoin the team. Current reports indicate the Giants may prefer to simply wait until September to activate Aurilia from the DL, so that if he needs to play day-to-day for a while they have the bench depth to cover for him.
