Simple Simon

by Jessica Polko

Randall Simon rejoined the Pirates on Monday after a minimum stay on the disabled list, as the torn ligaments in his right hand healed quickly. Unfortunately, he clearly left his common sense in Nashville when departing his rehab assignment.

Last night between the sixth and seventh innings of Pittsburgh's game in Milwaukee, Simon joined several of his teammates lining the dugout fence in their yellow Turn Back the Clock Night uniforms watching the sausage race. As the Bratwurst, Hot Dog, Italian Sausage, and Polish Sausage passed the players, the left-handed Simon raised and lightly swung his bat, hitting the Italian Sausage on the back of her large costume hat. While the blow luckily didn't strike her head inside the suit, she fell and took the Hot Dog down in the process.

The only injuries sustained by the two women in the costumes were a few cuts and bruises, but Simon's actions remain ridiculous. He was questioned by police, arrested, and driven in handcuffs to the police station. As the women didn't wish to press charges, he was charges with disorderly conduct and fined $432.
