Baltimore placed B.J. Surhoff on the disabled list on Sunday. Surhoff strained his right hamstring in the eighth inning of the Orioles' Saturday game against Kansas City while running out a double. While the injury isn't considered serious and Surhoff may be ready to return within a week, Baltimore didn't want to take any chances, especially since they were already looking to open up a roster spot for Eric DuBose. Surhoff will be eligible to return from the DL on the 19th.

We discussed DuBose when he received a cup-of-coffee last September. However, after spending two of the last three years as a reliever, the Orioles had DuBose working as a starter at AAA Ottawa this year. At the time of his promotion, DuBose had compiled a 21:4 K:BB with 26 H and 1 HR allowed in 30 IP for a 2.40 ERA at Ottawa. Baltimore needed him to start because Rodrigo Lopez hit the disabled list on Friday.
