Diamond Challenge

With Barmes out for the year, we don't see a logical SS replacement, so we'll stick with Tejada and Reyes while adding Chase Utley as a free agent now that he no longer faces any playing time questions. Yes, that move gives us four 2B, but with Roberts, Iguchi, Utley, and even Giles still good values, we don't mind the excess at one position for now.

SP(6)
Randy Johnson: Thu:PIT(Ol.Perez)
Johan Santana: Tue:SF(N.Lowry); Sun:SD(J.Peavy)
Jason Schmidt: Thu:@MIN(J.Mays)
Pedro Martinez: Sat:@SEA(R.Franklin)?
Roy Oswalt: Sat:@KC(D.Carrasco)
Roger Clemens: Fri:@KC(J.Howell)
Mark Mulder: Fri:@TB(S.Kazmir)
Jake Peavy: Tue:@DET(Jas.Johnson); Sun:@MIN(J.Santana)
Dontrelle Willis: Mon:@CHC(J.Koronka); Sat:@LAA(J.Lackey)
A.J. Burnett: Wed:@CHC(G.Maddux)
Josh Beckett: Tue:@CHC(S.Mitre); Sun:@LAA(P.Byrd)
Miguel Batista: 3 Home vs. STL; 3 Home vs. MIL.

With strikeouts and wins growing more important than saves, we'll deploy Oswalt and Clemens alongside our four doubles.

Offensively, Reyes replaces the cut Barmes while Edmonds, Lane, Morneau, and Utley sub for Victor Martinez, Dave Wright, Mench, and the injured Holliday, who all join Giles on the bench.

Diamond Challenge 2nd Season

With no backup 2B here, we'll take the opportunity to add Utley for Barmes.

SP(6)
Randy Johnson: Thu:PIT(Ol.Perez)
Johan Santana: Tue:SF(N.Lowry); Sun:SD(J.Peavy)
Pedro Martinez: Sat:@SEA(R.Franklin)?

Josh Beckett: Tue:@CHC(S.Mitre); Sun:@LAA(P.Byrd)
Brett Myers: Thu:@SEA(J.Pineiro)
Ryan Dempster: 3 Home vs. FLO; 3 Road at NYY.

Running the same six starters here, Santana, Clemens, Oswalt, Peavy, Willis, and Beckett, looks good to us, however Dempster remains solid and we could use the cap room for offense, so Oswalt will sit for Dempster.

Offensively, Counsell shifts to replace the dumped Barmes while ARod replaces Wright. Mauer and Utley will cover DH while Brady Clark replaces Hawpe, who joins Dellucci and the others on the bench.

With no moves jumping out at us for Barmes, he remains on our roster, along with Holliday.

Miguel Batista: 3 Home vs. STL.

No starts: Pedro, Oswalt, Clemens, Sheets, Mulder.

Six solid starts allows us to sit Batista.

With Miguel Cabrera in a mild slump, he hits our bench for a couple days, joining Victor Martinez, Marcus Giles, and the two injured Rockies as Hafner and Roberts also return to the lineup.

Randy and Clemens will join our four doubles.

A multitude of offensive changes result in Morneau, Giles, Furcal, Lane, Blalock, and Hafner replacing Helton, Hudson, Barmes, Holliday, Reed, and Victor Martinez, who join Glaus and Kearns on our bench. Perhaps we should make a move to replace Barmes or Kearns, but we're pleased with our lineup right now.

Today's Fantasy Rx: Take advantage of a week in AL parks to deploy your best NL pinch-hitters. Employing the DH opens regular playing time to several nominal part-timers, and the quantitative boost from six starts certainly could boost many teams over the next week.
