2004 Hitting: September NL Roto Prospects
by Tim Polko

Today's Fantasy Rx

Arizona: Doug DeVore, 26, OF-L
10/62 for .161/.200/.242 with 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 R, 0/0 SB%,
and a 3:20 BB:K.
63/234 for .269/.328/.504 with 14 HR, 43 RBI, 32 R, 3/5 SB%,
and a 21:67 BB:K for AAA Tucson(PCL).

DeVore first reached the majors after the Roberto Alomar trade, but his awful performance forced him back to Tucson after three weeks of flailing at the plate. He returned to Arizona last week and could see regular at-bats, however I see little upside here despite his decent power. While DeVore consolidated his hitting gains nicely last season at Tucson, BA problems this year forced all his averages down, leaving him with negligible immediate fantasy value. The additional collapse of his plate discipline, coupled with a 2.09 G-F and unimpressive 3.69 #P/PA with the Diamondbacks, means you should ignore DeVore in any league.

We'll continue tomorrow with American League pitching prospects.

Today's Fantasy Rx: Another wave of prospects soon should reach the majors following the end of the minor leagues' regular seasons this weekend, followed by a third grouping once the upper-level playoffs conclude. Of the NL position players already recalled, the best long-term options include Colorado's Garrett Atkins, Houston's Chris Burke, Montreal's Brendan Harris, and San Diego's Xavier Nady. Rebuilding teams in keeper leagues should prioritize this quartet if you see any of them available.
