2003 Hitting: June AL Overachievers
by Tim Polko

Today's Fantasy Rx

Note: The beginning of most stat lines includes the following data: H/AB for BA/OBP/SLG.

Anaheim: Garrett Anderson, OF
100/320 for .313/.342/.594 with 18 HR, 66 RBI, 43 R, 4/6 SB%,
and a 15:42 BB:K.

Anderson continues establishing himself as one of the most productive outfielders in the game as he owns the best overall averages of his career this season. He appears on track to exceed career highs in nearly every category, yet his OBP only remains mediocre thanks to his poor .05 walk rate. His .87 contact rate also is negligibly above his norm, so I suspect we'll see mild erosion of his BA in the second half. Of course, you still should wait on Anderson since I doubt we'll see any drastic movement in these numbers, and we certainly shouldn't expect an exceptional performance from him in the second half.

May Overachiever: Jeff DaVanon, OF
Old stats: 29/79 for .367/.407/.557 with 4 HR, 13 RBI, 16 R, 6/6 SB%,
and a 6:16 BB:K.
Recommendation: deal.
Stats since recommendation: 17/55 for .309 with 5 HR, 11 RBI, 12 R, 2/3 SB%,
and a 3:8 BB:K.

Previous Overachievers: April: Brad Fullmer.

We'll continue tomorrow with National League overachieving batters.

Today's Fantasy Rx: We traditionally wait as long as possible to submit All-Star ballots since we believe very strongly that players deserve the extra few weeks or days to boost their stats. Our general method of selecting our team involves a few steps. First, objective analysis, largely based upon the RARP and VORP data available at Baseball Prospectus. Second, subjective analysis, where we narrow the list using more traditional statistics. Finally, as we compile our preferred 30-man squads, we insure that every team is represented.

Our Recommended All-Star Ballot

POS	AL NL
1B	C.Delgado T. Helton
2B	B.Boone J. Vidro
SS	N.Garciaparra E.Renteria
3B	C.Koskie M. Lowell
C	J. Posada J.Lopez
OF	M.Mora(write-in)	A.Pujols
OF	M. Ramirez B.Bonds
OF	M.Bradley J.Edmonds
DH	F.Thomas

We know that casting a write-in vote for Melvin Mora, BAL, OF is more time-consuming than casting a vote for someone like Ichiro or Vernon Wells, however Mora arguably ranks as the most productive offensive player in the league. He clearly merits an All-Star start, and all self-respecting fans of the game must cast their vote for Baltimore's super-utility man and father of quintuplets.

Players who earned our vote for a second straight year include Posada and Ramirez in the AL, and Helton, Vidro, Lowell, and Bonds in the NL.

Jess will spend today and tomorrow detailing these picks and rosters, but we wanted to list our recommended ballot here today since you have until Wednesday, July 2nd at 11:59 PM(EDT) to vote as many times as possible here. ("As many as times as possible" means as many friends and family members you can either convince to vote or let you vote for them, multiplied by twenty-five ballots per person. While the process will likely take up to an hour per person to submit all the votes, every vote certainly counts now with some starting positions very much in question. Please vote as often as your schedule (and the rules) allow.
