Orlando Perez, ??, P:?, B:?. All I could find on Perez was that Texas placed him on the DL of one of the short-season clubs at the beginning of their 2001 season. He might be the son of HOFer Tony Perez, but from the sketchy listings I could find, Perez might also be moonlighting from his day job as a star midfielder for the Dallas MetroStars. Without knowing his exact identity, I'll have to guess at his prospects.

Woo hoo!

I believe I'm technically done with player reviews from 2001.

However, A few days of analysis seems required to put all these reviews in perspective. I'll begin that discussion tomorrow.

Today's Fantasy Rx: Among the logical top minor league draft picks, Jeff Heaverlo likely has the most potential of any pitcher from today, and he should force himself into Seattle's rotation no later than 2003. Colby Lewis is almost as good as Heaverlo, but faces more immediate competition in Texas and pitches in a worse park for pitchers. Justin Miller should be a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter if given the opportunity in Toronto; Mario Ramos appears stuck in a similar situation in Texas, albeit while facing more competition than Miller. John Lackey will be quite good if given the chance; he definitely sticks out in a relatively weak Anaheim system. Greg Wooten, despite being rather old for a prospect, should see a couple of years in Seattle's rotation if he continues posting fabulous K:BB numbers. Justin Kaye and Jason Turman appear to be extremely competent potential set-up men, leaving me to wonder why the Mariners bothered acquiring Hasegawa. Either one would be a decent reserve pick if they make the team.
